Privacy Policy

SyllabusAI is operated by Ryan (“we,” “us”). This page explains what we collect when you use SyllabusAI, why, and what you can do about it. We built this for students, so we’ve tried to write it like a person would read it — but it’s still a legal document, not a substitute for reading it yourself if something here matters to you.

1. What we collect

Account information

Your email address, and a password (or, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile info Google shares — your name and email).

What you upload and enter

The syllabus PDFs you upload, and the course names, professors, assessment names, due dates, grade weights, and grades you enter or confirm — whether typed in or extracted from a syllabus you uploaded.

Onboarding answers

The short quiz you complete when you first sign up (year, course load, what you’re stressed about, your goal for the term) — used to personalize what you see, nothing else.

Usage & product analytics

Aggregate, privacy-preserving analytics via Vercel Analytics (page views and a handful of product events, like completing signup) so we know which parts of the product are actually used. This doesn’t use tracking cookies or build an ad profile of you.

Payment information, if you upgrade

Handled entirely by Stripe. We receive confirmation that you paid and for what plan — we never see or store your card number.

2. How we use it

To run the actual product — extract your syllabus, track deadlines, calculate your grade
To personalize onboarding and remember your plan/usage limits
To provide support when you email us
To understand which features are actually used, so we build the right things

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use your syllabi or grades to train AI models.

3. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run SyllabusAI. Each only sees what it needs to do its job:

Anthropic — receives the PDF you upload, to extract deadlines and grade weights from it. See Anthropic’s own privacy policy for how they handle data sent to their API.
Supabase — hosts our database and handles account authentication (password storage, sessions).
Vercel — hosts the application and provides the privacy-preserving analytics described above.
Google — if you choose “Continue with Google” to sign in, instead of email/password.
Stripe — processes payment if you buy the Semester Pass.

We don’t share your data with anyone else, except if required to by law, or to protect the rights and safety of SyllabusAI or our users.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account from Account settings, your profile, courses, assessments, and grades are permanently deleted right away — this isn’t a soft delete, and we can’t recover it for you afterward.

5. Your rights

You can, at any time:

See and edit everything you’ve entered, directly in the product
Export or ask about your data by emailing us
Delete your account and all associated data yourself, instantly, from Account settings
Ask us questions about any of this at support@syllabusai.ca

6. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Passwords are never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by Supabase Auth. Database access is restricted so you can only ever read or write your own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard precautions.

7. Children’s privacy

SyllabusAI isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. See our Terms of Use for our age requirement.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a material way, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and make a reasonable effort to let you know.
